Boracay

Boracay island is located in the Western Visayas of Manila and northwest of Panay. It is one of the smallest islands and most visited place of the Philippines. In 2012, Travel & Leisure granted Boracay as the best island in the world and in 2014 it gained its recognition on top as the “Best Islands in the World” by the international magazine Conde Nast Traveler.

In 2017, Philippine Information Agency and Aklan Provincial Tourism recorded a total of 1.7 million tourists visited the island. Because of this, its environment was neglected and sewage system was totally unacceptable. In April 2018, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the temporary closure of its tourism for major renovation works and its natural environment restoration. It was re-opened to the public in October 2018 with new rules.
